Tea tree oil is is taken from the leaves of the Melaleuca alternifolia, native to New South Wales, Australia. Here the indigenous people of Australia use tea tree as a medicine by inhaling the oils from the crushed leaves. Also, the leaves are made into a poultice and applied onto wounds and used to make teas for soar throats and for skin treatments.
Tea tree oil (applied topically) may inhibit detrimental fungi on the skin and within the vagina. Terpineol is responsible for many of the therapeutic benefits of tea tree oil.
