Evidence is slowly building that certain plant extracts may have profound effects against a wide variety of undesirable organisms.   Current approaches that are only truly effective antifungals involve prescription medication, but chronic use is also characterised by a marked degree of toxicity, particularly affecting the liver and kidney function.  Some of these drugs also have an adverse effect upon the friendly bacteria, thus aggravating the problem they are attempting to remedy.

Scientists have now focused their attention upon a new series of natural compounds extracted from various plants such as oregano leaf, artemisia, rosemary, ginger, scutellaria and barberry which have a potent effect against fungi, yeasts and other bacteria.  

It is very difficult to obtain the maximum benefit from currently available liquid oil and new technologies are now being used to provide dry extracts that are more oxidation and degradation resistant.  These high yield extracts are more efficiently absorbed because they are dispersed in water based environments similar to that of the body, to better target microorganisms.
